Our commitment to Child Safety

Commitment to the Working with Children Check (WWCC)

The Hunter Regional Conservatorium (HRC) has a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse. To ensure a safe environment for our students, every member of our team - including teaching staff, administrative personnel, volunteers, and our Management Committee - must hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) as a condition of their engagement.

We go beyond the initial check by:

  • Ongoing Verification: We regularly verify all WWCC clearances through the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian to ensure continued suitability.

  • Mandatory Training: All staff participate in annual Child Protection Awareness Training to ensure they can identify, prevent, and respond to potential risks effectively.

Statement of Commitment to Child Safety

At the Hunter Regional Conservatorium, every child has the right to be safe and feel safe. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment where our students can flourish musically and personally.

We embrace the 10 NSW Child Safe Standards to guide our culture and operations:

  1. Leadership: Child safety is embedded in our leadership and governance.

  2. Participation: We listen to children and take their views seriously.

  3. Families: We inform and involve families in our child safety approach.

  4. Equity: We respect diversity and uphold equity for all children.

  5. People: Our staff are suitable, supported, and vetted.

  6. Reporting: We have clear, child-focused processes for responding to concerns.

  7. Training: Staff are equipped with continuous safety knowledge and skills.

  8. Environments: We maintain safe physical and online learning spaces.

  9. Review: We continuously monitor and improve our safety practices.

  10. Policy: Our commitment is clearly documented and accessible to all.
